What TU9 Universities Actually Look For
TU9 admissions committees — RWTH Aachen, TU Munich, KIT, and the rest — are evaluating whether your academic background genuinely aligns with a specific Lehrstuhl (chair) or research group, not just whether your GPA clears a threshold.
Your motivation letter needs to name the actual research direction you want to pursue and connect it to specific coursework or project experience you already have — generic enthusiasm about "German engineering" is an immediate tell that the application wasn't built for this university.
APS certification (Akademische Prüfstelle) is mandatory before you can even apply to most programmes, and it has its own evaluation logic — a separate, formal review of your academic documents that has nothing to do with how a university assesses your application later.
Quantitative depth matters more here than almost anywhere else — prior lab work, thesis projects, or independent technical projects carry real weight, even for a master's applicant who hasn't published anything yet.
